Murray State Director of Athletics Allen Ward announced today that Murray State will no longer sponsor the sports of Men’s Indoor & Outdoor Track, effective immediately.

“Several years ago, the decision was made to only offer men’s indoor & outdoor track on a non-scholarship basis,â€Â

I feel bad for the athletes who were a part of that program. We had a similar problem at our University, but thanks to the efforts of our coaches, our program was able to not only survive, but flourish. You have to recruit like crazy and have really committed coaches when there is no money to offer athletes. My coach, Ron Kamaka, was so inspiring that we didn't care about money...we were just happy to be a part of the program. Hopefully the MSU athletes will get together and form a club or something.

Chavis was our head track and field coach at Hope College my freshman year before he got the job at Murray State. That stinks to hear that he lost his men's team. He is a great coach and he will do wonders with the women's program!
