Four time Big Ten champion joins McNeese State Cowboy track team

Addition of Brad Gebauer is expected to make McNeese one of the top pole vaulting teams in nation this year
Sept. 4, 2006

Brad Gebauer, a four time Big Ten pole vault champion at Michigan State, has enrolled at McNeese State and will compete this school year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons for the Cowboys.

He finished fourth in last year's NCAA meet and is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation for collegiate vaulters with a best of 18-1 outdoors and 18-1/2 indoors.

A native of Bad Axe, Michigan, Gebauer said that he transferred to McNeese to be coached by Ty Sevin who is considered to be one of the top pole vault coaches in the world.

The addition of Gebauer to the Cowboy vaulting squad will make McNeese one of the top pole vault teams in the nation this season. Returnee Jimmie Heath is presently ranked No. 3 among collegiate vaulters.

Besides winning four conference titles while at Michigan State, Gebauer also won the national championship at the Dominican Republic this past summer and earned all-American honors during the 2006 indoor season.

Gebauer, who has earned his bachelor degree, will be pursuing a masters degree in exercise physiology at McNeese.
