good times at clemson

Unread postby VTechVaulter » Sat Mar 26, 2005 6:06 pm

so i was just wondering how many other people have done this. The guys vaulted at 430 with the girls to follow. well by the time the girls bar got to 11' it was dark out, and their stadium has no lights.. so after talking to the head official, myself and mitch greely from clemson got a couple cars and parked em on the back of the runway. and they finished the comp like that. After one or two vaultesr i was scared that my idea may have gotten somone killed :( . but a couple girls came up afterwards and said they had a blast with it. just wondering who else has done things like this?

My husband and I officiated the full moon event. After a bit of worry pre-car lights it was really fun! When again will you vault against a full moon?!?!? Thanks to you wonderful athletes for making it so much fun for us officials! :D

Bryan, How high did you and Mitch jump?

The guys got rained out at Florida Relays today. The girls vaulted yesterday after several delays. Randilina Sergent (UGA vaulter last yr) was jumping out of her mind. She PR'd, 3 or 4 times, and went up a foot to 13' 6" +/-. She finished 2nd at the same height as a San Diego State vaulter. Both ladies had 14' cleared easily but found a way to knock it down. Randelina has just started training with Dave Johnston in FL.

I did it once last year, it was lots of fun, and I jumped quite well in the dark. It was a little tough to see the box though, but fun regardless.

That's just poor planning to start the first set of vaulters at 4:30 if your stadium has no lights

thats a bummer about the rain in florida. How did shayla look (i believe the sdsu vaulter your referring to is the former h.s. record holder shayla balentine)

Not sure if it was Shayla. I didn't see the heat sheet. I thought it was her and I asked her in warm ups. She said Shayla didn't make it. Who ever she was she looked like Shayla and had easy height for 14'. SO if it was her she was talking about herself in the third person. Must have been the long flight. LOL All the SDSU girls vault well.

Carolina Extreme, it was Shayla Balentine. She and Randeline both looked really good! It was good to see Randeline keep in the sport.

Us officials would never have started the event at 4:30 pm ( guys) with gals to follow at a field w/o lights either!! However, it was not our call....we are GLAD all were safe and most enjoyed it.........( CU)
