From beginner to bubka

Unread postby rbvaulter#1 » Sat Mar 07, 2009 7:48 pm

i have a great coach but i really like to learn and try new techniques whenever possible. I mostly want to know if there is a difference between "from beginner to bubka" and "from beginner to bubka and isabaneyva".

Also it would be great if anyone had any opinions on these books.
Thanks!

Welcome to PVP!

The full title of the second book is "From Beginner to Bubka and Isinbayeva too! An Australian Approach to Developing Pole Vaulters" . On PVP, it's aka "the BTB2" book. This is the second edition, whereas the first book you mentioned is the first edition. Same authors, just more updated info in the second one.

Just use the Search box for BTB2, and you'll find oodles of quotes and info about it on PVP. The 2 authors are Alan Launder and John Gormley. Launder goes by the handle "Altius" on this forum. Search for his real name or his handle, and you'll find oodles more info.

My opinion about BTB2 ... which you will find when you search for that keyword ... is all positive. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever read any negative opinions about it!

Oh ... and it's not a "new technique!" :)

If you need a good review, my coach nearly flipped out when he saw that I had bought that.
He was even more excited when he found out I had bought the DVD that goes with it.
Apparently, its the single best pole vault book he's ever seen.
One of our state champions has the book.
[We've had 3 state champions, with a total of 5 champion titles, in the past 4 years. Would have probably had 2-3 more, but one of the champions got hurt and couldn't vault anymore.]
It's VERY good!

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever read any negative opinions about it!

Unfortunately, I have come across a coach that "went through and marked up the stuff that was wrong on every page." There are oodles (love this word) of people that are so against this 'new technique' (going on ~40 years old now) that they won't listen to the simplest physics/logic...

RBV, you are doing the right thing buy getting BTB2! Read it, then go forth and prosper, spreading the truth to those that are willing to listen. Don't bother spending much time trying to force it on people... Altius little cartoon in the 'back to the drawing board' thread pretty much sums up the situation.

One of our state champions has the book.

I'd be willing to bet that Alex Parnov bought it too... Even though a lot of the information came from him. (Right?)

The second one is a much expanded and updated version of the first one. The first one is out of print. I would definitely get the second one, it is much more detailed and better.

RBV, RainbowGirl isn't being a very assertive salesperson for her own website. Or maybe she's just too modest!

If you want to buy the book, you can buy it from RG here: http://polevaultpower.com/store/ :)

Profits from the PVP Store (and I'm sure it's not much profit after her time and costs are covered) get poured back into this website, and pay RG for all her time and effort in keeping this site running.

PVP in turn pours money back into the PV community. For example, Brian Mondschein's career is partly sponsored by PVP.

Buy BTB2 from PVP! I did! I bought the DVD too!

I took it to the Post Office today, you can track it at usps.com the tracking number is 0103 8555 7496 6271 7152. I would predict that you _should_ get it Friday. But sometimes local post offices are unpredictable.
