Detour Bar Review

Unread postby rainbowgirl28 » Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:49 pm

A few weeks I was contacted by the folks who make Detour Bars, and they agreed to send me a number of Detour Bars in exchange for writing reviews about the bars on here. I got two of each kind, so I will be writing a review of each one and my high school coach Rod (who pretty much lives on bars) will be writing a review of each one as well.

The bars came today and here is my first review:

Detour Biker - Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor.

For Those Who Love to Ride

Mountain biking, spinning, or cycling requires a lot of aerobic energy. You need the right fuel to perform at your best. Detour Biker bars contain whey protein and Rhodiola, which helps enhance muscle energy and stamina during exercise. Plus it’s been seen to help speed cardiovascular and muscle recovery-time after you ride.*

12 grams Protein
High-quality Whey Protein
Rhodiola to help improve muscle stamina and recovery
Cereal-bar taste
All Natural

I have always been a big fan of chocolate peanut butter bars.

The Detour Biker bars all come in pretty big wrappers that are pumped full of air. The bars themselves are around the same size as other bars on the market.

The chocolate peanut butter bar is like a dense granola bar with chocolate coating on the bottom and peanut butter chips on top.

The consistency is not bad. It's denser than a normal cereal bar, but it's not too dense. It's a bit crunchy with actual chunks of peanuts inside.

The taste is pretty decent. It doesn't have any weird aftertastes and it doesn't look like they used any artificial sweeteners.

It feels pretty filling for the number of calories.

Nutrition info:
210 calories, 7g fat (3 saturated), 25g carbs (4g fiber, 8g sugar), 12g protein.

It uses whey protein, not soy protein like a lot of other bars.

Overall I would give this bar a thumbs up and I would eat it again.

More to come...

Rod's review:

* A rice crispy cookie based energy bar that is quite tasty. Not as dry as most rice crispy based bars and is surprisingly moist. The flavors are subtle yet tasty and the calorie count is low. It could have more protein but that might ruin the flavor.

The raspberry dark chocolate had a really strong raspberry flavor that was kind of over the top, just a little too sweet. The chocolate was good though.

I'm not a huge fan of toffee flavored bars, and this only reinforced my beliefs. It was OK, but the toffee flavor was just a little funny tasting to me.

This was pretty good. A light tasting bar.

This would have been a lot better if it was just chocolate chip flavored. The "cookie" flavor detracted from an otherwise good bar.

These had an interesting texture that I actually enjoyed. The chocolate coating kind of crunches when you bite down on it. They tasted pretty good.

Overall I found all of the bars to have a good texture, and most had a pretty good taste. I would definitely recommend giving them a try
