USATF Junior Nationals or Nike Outdoor Nationals???

Unread postby cdmilton » Tue May 16, 2006 10:20 am

I coach a female vaulter (13-3) who is eligible for either USATF Junior Nationals or Nike Outdoor Nationals and I am trying to figure out which competition to go to. I don't think we can do both because we would have to fly and that would get expensive quick. Looking at the results from last year the Nike meet had the better competition by far. For me it would be more fun to go to the USATF meet and stay to watch the elite competition.

Does anyone here have plans to go to either meet? Where are the rest of the top HS/Junior girls going?

World Jr's is in Biejeng this Summer. It would be pretty hard for me to pass up the opportunity to go wear the USA and represent my country.

Do you know how it works if an athlete qualifies? Does USATF foot the bill for the athlete? I'm guessing a flight to china is not cheap and I wouldn't want her to go alone and not have a coach.

i know at the meet in indy the athlete has to be top 2 and there are 2 girls over 14 going to be there so the chances of getting out are slim
pain is only temporary victory is forever

The athlete will get a free trip plus sweats, uniforms, tights and all sorts of cool USA type stuff. Great experience for a kid even if coach can't go with them.

There is a full staff of national team coaches and managers who travel with the Jr. team. It is pretty much just like the olympic experience.
