What do i have to do to jump in college?

I am in my senior year in high school right now and am looking into jumping in college. I did not vault until my soph. year but my p.r. junior year was 14'6. Over the summer i cleared 15 consistently from a 14 ft. pole. I vaulted the other weekend and made 14'8 from my 6 stride on a 14ft. 175. my jumping is feeling pretty good and i should be able to clear 15'6 by Summit. I'd really like to jump in college but i haven't really recieved much interest from many schools. What can i do? Am i good enough to jump at the next level?

i know there is already a post about this. It all depends where you want
to go. I only jumped 14' 9" in HS, but i am vaulting on a D1 college program.....you need to make coaches aware of you. Fill out the recruiting forms. Where are you from and where are you looking at?

The most important thing you can do is contact coaches of schools you are interested in. Don't just wait for them to come to you. Ask what their standards are for walk ons.

You should be able to compete at any DII or DIII school. Even some small DI schools might be happy to have you. I would email the coaches at the schools you are intersted in and see what they think.

how tall are you? how much are you willing to spend on college? How are your grades? Have you thought about moving up to 15' poles? Do you do any other sports?

At some schools grades are a big thing. They were a big factor in helping me be on the team. Had i slacked in HS they wouldn't have replied to the recruiting form i filled out.

Last season I had a vaulter jump 15'4" and qualify for State. I was in my second year of coaching and did'nt think to contact colleges for him.
Long and short of it, contact every college you think that you might be interested in right now. California has many good schools both at the CSU and UC level.
Also, make sure that you have taken all of the classes you need for those schools. If not, look at the JC's. Jan Johnson, Questa in SLO, or Brian Yokoyama at Mt. Sac are great coaches.
My guy didn't get any money this year but, if he jumps well, will get some next year a Long Beach State.

Cal Poly just got a new coach and things will change there. They have a history of pretty good jumpers. UCSB had 2 guys going 15'. So it sounds like you are in the range.

PS. CSU's have some great vaulting programs. Stanislaus is DII with some great vaulters (a girl going high 13's.) Chico State, Fullerton (great coach and great teammates).

If you want to vault, you can find it in Cali, but don't expect much money. Maybe Books and/or tuition. Not much to give out, and vaulting usually doesn't score enough points to help in a meet. If you aren't going high enopugh tomake the league meet or beyond, the coach gets no pub for it.

Out of state is the place to check out. Contact sstefan@unm.edu. They will need several vaulters next year. 3 are graduating this year.

Cal Poly's new coach is Jack Hoyt who was at Seattle Pacific before and he is really good.

thanks for everyones help. I've been talking to the Cal Poly and Santa Barbarra coaches and i'm meeting with them this weekend. We'll see how that goes.
