The work Mr Gonzales does on the PV lists for California, is a bunch. If not for that compilation which is always timely and 95% accurate, I'd be less prepared going into the big invites, from a strategy point of view than I like. Plus its great motivation for the kids that make those lists. From November when he rights up a season California CIF section preview on the Vault, until State meet at week one in June, he and the others that support the California data to a great job. They cover all the invites north and south and even pick up league dual meets.

One time last year I bitched (nicely) about an asterisk missing from my vaulters name indicating he was a Junior. I just shot off a email and BOOM next time out it was taken care of.

Thats a nit I know, but when your young vaulter is counting up whether he finished CIF as the number 7 or 8th Junior, in the state of Ca and confirming he finished as the number 2 Junior PVer in CIF southern section. Its useful and leveragable data when we prepare our college lists, evaluate PV teams and their ages and HS heights achieved vs. financial assistance received, progress in college so far (who wants to vault at D-1 if you cant make the travel squad?) . ETC etc. We look at the cycles for recruiting of vaulters by each team modify our candidate list by this factor too.

Anyhow.

Now for my only two open bitches that I'll address between now and November. #1. Convince me otherwise, but it makes NO SENSE to have a single individual, ranked in multiple positions at multiple heights. With just a quick look I saw no less than 5 duplicates in the top 30. Thats lame and I'm hoping not intentional, because there have been basically just two of those in the Ca top 25, albeit they never got fixed. It makes no sense showing in the rankings some hotshots splendid PR progress as he wins or places at meets each time improving his PR. Heck if two guys went from 15' to 17 feet over the season, the list/ranking would say there are only two vaulters in the top 12. That cant be the intention of these lists (or it wasn't). if there is a change of thought yell at me so I can take back most of what I said on the dates usefulness and accuracy.

And last sentence, Last b****. The lists should cover indoor on a state by state basis where it is a legit high school athletic season, AND cover in state not recognizing HS Indoor by keeping the data pure as USATF. Don't mix the data base!...AND especially when it comes to this outdoor 2006 list you were bitching about (if marks are achieved after the state meets, keep it off the Track and Field "Season lists" The season was over when state meets ended, and some guy that vaults another 20 days and does 5 or 6 meets (no duh he improves) shows up on the 2006 season list above others who accomplished with in the real HS seasons across the country. Plus not at some flakey all comers meet either that oh by the way uses USATF rule books and in our case not CIF/NFHS. Its a bunch different vaulting a PR in some lax summer all comers meet, with some volunteer, vaulter friendly judge, with maybe 1 or two other vaulters than lets say, oh, 30 vaulters on the same runway at MT SAC or Trabuco Hills in raining April, with rain delays and distant warm up areas or the melting heat and 30 vaulters, at Arcadia. And all those big invites and the State prelims meets as well warm ya up and sit ya down so you can have 1hr between jumps. No pressure there!l

I applaud those vaulters desire and commitment to improve their vaulting but, save their recognition for the next season (2007 preview or after the first big invite like Fresno) It doesn't belong in the official HS State track and field season data base -AFTER THE FACT.

I did not mean to say that was the case in the specific exclusions cited, but I've seen the data base get corrupted like this already this summer. Now for those not familiar with those meets you cited, you should have added the data e of the event. and if those are after state meet time in June, the should be included in my opinion in the season end summary. So before Golden West or wait.

Oh Spiers top five list very few use. We all follow the top 5. He ought to work the National DYESTAT elite PVers (top 100 list, more than once a year) That WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Top of the morning to ya all
