This one could mean no practices without an adult

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Sat Jul 26, 2003 8:38 am

7-2-9 Warming-up shall not be allowed in any jumping venue until supervised by a coach or official.
Rationale: To minimize the risk to competitors and bystanders, no warm-ups shall be allowed until there is an adult coach or official on hand to supervise the area

This one could mean no practices without an adult coach or official present.

Std Practice

That has been the standard practice in certain states already - for meets - practice would be a little harder to enforce

Yea, our coach already enforced that rule before it became an actual rule... yelled at us many times...but he let us vault as long as there was someone nearby, not neccesarily at the pole vault area

Certified Coach

Unread postby jmayesvaultmom » Tue Aug 05, 2003 9:03 pm

I was told this week by a USATF certified coach that in the spring newsletter from USATF it said that starting next year for USATF AND HIGH SCHOOL (according to NFHS) competitions, a competitor will not be allowed to vault in a meet without a certified coach. I don't know if he meant a pole vault certified or just a certified coach. Does anyone know exactly what he is talking about? :dazed:
That's Jodie!!

A scripture that makes me think of all you girls and guys pole vaulting....

Habakkuk 3:19
The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to go on the heights.

I REALLY LIKE THE NO "TAPPING RULE" AND HOPE THAT IT IS STRICTLY ENFORCED. If you show up to a comp and still need a tap (in warm ups) you have not properly prepared for that meet or tapping has become a crutch. At the ADIDAS meet 2 yrs ago I watched 3 girls w/ the same coach all get taps in warm ups. All 3 got rejected on their first attempts in the meet and had to go down a pole (prob the one they should have been on anyways) to get a clearance. And this is a coach who "knows" his stuff??? There IS a time and a place for a tap and a meet is not one of them. Not to mention too much becomes a crutch REAL quick!!!

I don't see how that could apply to any state other than WA and whatever other state has a coaches certification program :confused:
