Re: Fall / winter pole vault options

Coach Williams used to have one at Livonia Churchill High School that started in December, but now that he's moved on to Eastern Michigan, I don't know where/when/if he'll have one this year. Maybe contact him, he's skyshark177 on here.

8'6" to 14'3": A Journey

So if you've seen my past uploads onto this sight, you've seen me take steps from being a baby fiberface to the second best vaulter in my area. Now, after having graduated high school, I decided to put together a nice lil montage of all (well most) of my personal best jumps. Starting bar is 8'6"...

Re: flagging out!!!!!

1) Post a video 2) Be less vague 3) Stop looking at the bar (this is the biggest problem for intermediate jumpers in my area) 4) Scroll through the boards and see that there have been many jumpers with similar situations; the problem tends to lie with either your bottom arm or your plant/takeoff For...

Re: Length vs. Weight

If you're holding at the same spot or not, the longer pole is going to be the "bigger" one. If you grip down on a long pole, the sail piece will be higher in relation to your hands than the shorter pole, and due to this it will take more energy to bend but also give you a quicker recoil. I...

Re: breaking the 14' barrier

i guess my point is sometimes if you just take a little time off, that and i find the more i visualize myself vaulting, even throughout the whole day before a vault session or meet i have a tendency to perform better. also as stated it does seem that these heights are harder to come by because for ...

Re: power vs. aesthetics vs. endurance lifting

I like the discussion. What I guess I was trying to get at was this; how much training should be done for explosiveness, and how much for endurance? Yes, the vault itself lasts only 4-5 seconds, but the vaulter has to warm up, take a few practice runs, and then jump anywhere from 3 to 15 times in a ...

Re: Finally, a new PR

Not so hot at states; basically, I knew I should have moved up poles, didn't, and ended up with a low height. Interestingly enough, though, I've been tweaking my three left approach, and getting some pretty good results from it! here's some film (just 2 jumps) that I found interesting. in one, I get...

power vs. aesthetics vs. endurance lifting

This is a thread dedicated to LIFTING and general strength training. No pit, no pole. I recently came across an article in a medical journal that discussed abdominal/core planks and the differences between what an athlete and average person needs. The article talked about how a simple plank regimen,...

Re: Finally, a new PR

Haha! I see what you're doing there, and that makes sense. I tend to pick an object just beyond the pits and about 10' in the air to look at during my run-up, but I have noticed a tendency to look down/let my chin drop either right at or just before takeoff. I also noticed that during my last practi...
