Day 5
Glenrio, TX to Fort Worth, TX
After Glenrio we pressed on toward Adrian. On my first trip out here I saw an awesome sign that said "Cats are not to be trusted. This is no joke." By far the coolest sign I have ever seen! After doing some research on the internet, I found that there were more crazy signs in Adrian, and I was determined to hunt them down. Our first stop in Adrian was the Midpoint Cafe. This time it was open and everything, so we stopped in for a bite to eat.
The cafe is covered in Route 66 decorations.
This guy (I forget his name) was one of the original owners of the cafe. He still comes in and helps out from time to time.
He was nice enough to take a picture of me and Zack.
Now on to our quest for signs... I talked to the girl in the store about it a little and she confirmed what I had heard about millionaire Stanley Marsh III (the guy who built Cadillac Ranch) putting up these crazy signs.
These 2 signs were in a book but they are no longer up in town. The one on the left says "Adrian. You will never be the same." The one on the right was in front of the cafe. Actually it is still there, but they put a sign for the cafe in front of it. It says "If a man could have half his wishes, he would double his trouble"
The original "Cats are not to be trusted. This is no joke." I never did trust cats...
Crock of Gin
This is the Bent Door Station. A really cool place, it is a shame that it is wasting away :(
I am not going to try and quote this one, since it is long and some letters are missing.
So in my quest for signs, Zack was driving and I was hopping out of the car to take pictures. It was in the 90s outside so he was more comfortable chilling inside the car. The above 3 signs are all fairly close to each other on Old Route 66. I was just kind of walking along taking pictures. I saw one more sign a little further down and started to head toward it...
I get closer and... HOLY COW IT'S A POLE VAULTER! Well a pig pole vaulting!!
Pig on a Stick
I ran as fast as I could back toward Zack (not an easy task in my flip flops) and was really out of breath, incoherntly trying to tell him about it.
He drove the car over and we got some pictures in front of it.
Then I made a note and we signed it and taped it to the pole. I will have to go back sometime and see if it is still there!

The Old Cowboy Took Off His Hat
If you took everybody who fell asleep in church and put them end to end in a line on the floor they'd be much more comfortable
You know I think they are right!
I am infected with the callings of the cowboy's life
Loose at Night
What fun! We finally left Adrian and booked it to Fort Worth.
We hit rainy weather for a bit. That kind of sucked. We got in pretty late to Bruce Caldwell's house, but we stayed up to watch Neo Vault (of course). Bruce really liked it and pimped it out on my website the next day haha.
