Duplantis had several 10m/s runs

whew, He looks like he is flying on sky systems I, but I never imagined that he had 10m's speed!! I thought he just looked fast b'c he appears shorter than most the other vaulters.

The day Scott Huffman set the american record at 19'7 (with the roller) he had the fastest runway speed ever recorded.

Greg Duplantis ran the same speed as Huff in the 96 trials, I saw that jump and he was moving. I'm not sure you could see his legs at the time. LB

Duplanits was a big time speed demon! And one of my favorite jumpers, along with Hufman and some other little guys. There is no way to jump that high without bringin' some serious heat into the box, no matter what size the jumper is. Those two guys were little, and made up for it in velocity.

Just as a side bar to this discussion for everyone out there, there is much more to being fast in the polevault than just moving fast. There is also serious concerns about balance and power. Just moving fast dosen't guarantee that energy will be transfered. I don't know if there is a technical name for it, I call it effective speed, and I am sure everyone knows what I am talking about. There are guys who have raw speed, that simply isn't effective, and others who have very little speed, but a high degree of effective speed. Then there are the dangerous fiew, like Bubka, who had both.

Scott was training lwith us last year before the relays and he told me that i was one of the quickest and most effeicent guys he ever vaulted with or against. I beat he in a 40 in warm up but he jump 5.30 on a 15' pole and mad me look like crap but hhes great to have around. we got a great tradition of vaulters that went to school here Jan Johnson, Scott Huffman, Pat Manson, Jeff Buchingham, Terry Porter. Lotta tradition got to do my part.

Ruhan

Ruhan was amazing on the runway.

He would have had a good shot at being a 6 meter vaulter if he would have gotten to Jonesboro earlier in his career.

I don't know, but I always thought it was Bubka, I heard somewhere that he could run an 11 sec 100 with a pole, but that's darn fast.

Then he was totally misinformed. I remeber talking to him about bubka for the longest time. I swear he told me bubka was on the 4x1. Not like Ukrain ever had a chance of gold or anything but, hmmm, mabye he was a alternate, I mean, does any one know Bubka's 100 time?
