Midmark question

Unread postby kwantana » Tue May 03, 2016 9:18 am

So I was reading about midmarks and came across DJ's midmark chart and after looking over it (im not sure if im reading it completely right in all honesty) it says that with my bar height of 12 feet (my pr) i should be holding 12" 3' (although i hold 12 feet even) and that my mid mark should be 41, what throws me off the most is in the last few Bell Athletics pole vault camps ive attended Earl has told me a good mid for my 5L run should be 32 feet. I would like to use the midmark to adjust my run because recently ive been consistently under but i really have no clue how to measure or check it. if anyone could help clarify this for me that would be great

Which step are you referring to as your midmark at 32'?

Sooooo... again... Which step are you calling your midmark? When you hit 32', which foot is it, and which step is it from the take off? Sorry if I was unclear.

It's my left foot I believe and it's my 6th step.

Something's not right here. Maybe it is that it is a 5 step run (the chart is designed for 6L and up), but it doesn't seem moving back one left would bring the same step out 9 feet. At 12', it's probably time to move to a 6L run anyway though. Maybe Earl was adjusting for a 5L run, calling a different step the midmark. In any event, it is a feat to clear 12' with a 32' midmark.

But you say "I believe," as if you're not sure if it is your left foot... The right foot is the "sixth" step out for a right handed vaulter: 1 L (TO), 2 R (PEN), 3 L (A-PEN), 4 R, 5 L, 6 R, 7 L (MID), 8 R, 9L, etc. Let's make sure we're talking about the correct step. To me it makes sense that you might be hitting 32' with your right foot on a 5L run and clearing 12'.

32 would be 4 steps from takeoff..L..R...L..R...L

The chart is 6 steps... L..R..L..R..L..R..L

So a 32 four step at EB's is about a 43 six step on my chart.. A 5-6" stride and. TO at 10'? Ish..

Which means if your running correctly, without stretching, you could potentially be jumping 13 with a 12-10 grip
