HEAT IS PILED ON LONDON

Sergei Bubka will be the arch opponent of Lord Coe for the IAAF presidency in four years’ time

AMID the controversy over the athletics legacy of London 2012’s main stadium, a battle to host the 2017 World Championships is emerging with Doha.
Tottenham’s appeal against the decision to grant post-Games ownership to West Ham, who will keep the running track – fundamental to the award of the 2017 showpiece – is due for hearing in mid-October.
If Spurs win, a second selection process would have to be initiated. But the Government could weigh the odds against any further application by Tottenham, or Leyton Orient, by insisting the athletics track stays.
The IAAF council will vote on the 2017 hosts on November 12, and after Barcelona withdrew from the bidding yesterday, London faces a straight fight with Qatari capital Doha.
The problem then for London is that the chairman of the IAAF evaluation committee is Sergei Bubka, arch opponent of Lord Coe for the IAAF presidency in four years’ time.
Having been wounded politically last week when finishing fourth behind Coe in the election of vice-presidents, pole vault legend Bubka can be expected to undermine London and, within perceived neutrality, to favour Doha, a campaign already in full swing .
Coe’s magnanimous conduct during the recent elections have raised his status substantially, while there are many in the IAAF known to wish for the championships to be in London following previous blunders.

Doha, Qatar, October 11, 2011 – Yelena Isinbayeva, the star Russian pole vaulter, has expressed her strong support for the Doha 2017 bid for the IAAF World Championships.

Yelena is one of the greatest female athletes of her generation, having set incredible world records and been two time Olympic gold medal and five times World Champion since her breakthrough in 2004. Yelena Isinbayeva knows about setting new standards and breaking barriers.

Having competed in Doha at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2010, this incredible female star acts as a true inspiration for youth throughout the region.

I hope they pick Doha with their JUL-SEPT average highs of 105+ and lows of 85+ just to hear the crying from distance runners.

The weather and winds in London are sketchy.....

From the reports I saw on when Doha tried to bid for Olympics the entire stadium will be air conditioned and temperature controlled. The money and resources Doha has is outstanding.
