My Panasonic HD cam ran out of battery, so I had to resort to my iPad, which hasn't any zoom capabilities. There were quite a lot of scary moments, that I didn't get on video. Kirillov had a jump with full inversion, where he had no penetration at all. He was extremely lucky not to fall straight into the box.

Horvat is using tennis ball over the pole tip. I thought I was the last one who ever use it:

That's awesome! Mark has been struggling with breaking his tips lately, might have to suggest this! :)

I thinks so. No real proof, but it could possibly be a little like the old towel in the box trick. But I am pretty sure you can do anything to the pole at the bottom to protect it from the box. Only main rule for vaulting poles is no more than 2 layers of tape for grip.

Actually the two layers of tape rule went away last year............at least in florida, but I though it was a NHSAA rule.

Correct, there is no longer a two layer of tape rule at the HS level, and I don't think it ever existed at any other level. Now you just can't have any big bumps or ridges on the tape.

In the seventies (yeah i'm old) we put rope or other stuff under the tape to help us hold on better. Your grip spot was clearly marked by a mass.............of stuff, and it was usually very :D :D sticky too!
