High School Pit Dimensions

I went to a regional track meet yesterday, and was dissappointed to see them vaulting into a strong wind when the pit could have been moved to the other end of the runway. Also no standard base pads on the 10' X 3' bare concrete. I'm not usually one to complain about such things; I just think this site should not have been awarded the meet.

The pit measured 16' 6" from back of box to back of pit. I was thinking the requirement was 19' 6". Someone please tell me the minimum requirements for a high school pit.

19'6" is the required width of the pit
20'2" is the total length of the pit
16'5" from back of box to back of pit is required
Protection around the standards is required.

If the facility is unsafe or illegal the visiting team should not jump for safety reasons and the visiting team will be awarded the full points for the event.
Jan Johnson has on his websites some very good articles on PV landing system safety.

Thanks, Bruce. The pit was legal except for absence of base pads.
