Poles and flex numbers.

Unread postby PVGuy89 » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:57 am

Hi,

I was wondering if a flex number for a 4.9m pole continues on the 5m poles or do they have different flex ratings.

Example.

like a 4.9m 16.0 = 5m 16.0?
or is the 5m 16.0 stiffer?

OR

like a 5m 16.0 = 5.1m 16.0?

Thanks.

Not a straight forward answer to this. Prior to a adjustment made by Gill in there flex chart in 2004 -
- 490 and up where all on the same span -
- so prior to that if it was a Gill pole:

if a 490 or longer had the same flex number and held all at the same grip hgt - say 480
--they would all be very similar
-- the longer ones you could grip a little higher so if you could have grabbed the 490 at 500
-- slight difference in sail placement so minor difference

But as previously mentioned -- all measured on same span -- Believe Spirit still does it this way

2004 Gill adjusted so the spans on all poles so they were measured the same logic-- a certain distance from bottom and certain distance from the top - thus if pole got 15 cm longer the span for testing got 15 cm wider -this was how the 4m thru 490 chart had been set up
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
