Training flats - what to look for

I've seen several topics on spikes and what to wear for competitions - but i'm headed out to get myself a new pair of trainers soon, and i just wondered what would be something to look for in a trainer used for pole vaulting.
I am not looking for any super-expensive pole vault shoes, i'm just gonna buy a pair of regular running trainers - but there are still many things to think about, such as support, weight and heel-to-toe drop.
I am mostly wondering what would be better when it comes to heel-to-toe drop; a small drop or a large drop? i am considering the kinvara 2's and thinking that the small drop would help me take better strides and prevent me from landing on my heels too much, and on top of that they are relatively light - am i completely wrong on this?
Thank you
