Is it ever "legal" to jump on a pole in competition that has been shortened?

In indiana (High School Competition) it was a state meet in fact the officials wouldnt let 2 different teams use a good number of their poles because they were 'cut off', so by the IHSAA rules as of 3 years ago it's illegal to use them. but then again the officials have to check the poles which doesnt always happen.

The reason I am asking is that several months ago I purchased a used 12'-125 pole from a well-known pole dealer. Just a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the engravings showed that it was "originally" a 13-footer. I am assuming that we can't use it in competition.

Not unless the original manufacturer re-labeled -- which I doubt they would do -- something in the HS rules about modified or altered --

Illegal for high school (though most officials wouldn't know). Rules say the pole cannot be altered.
Legal at all other levels.
