Spirit Pole Test Weights

Unread postby AR01 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 8:33 pm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in high school you are not allowed to hold any higher than the weight sticker. On UCS Spirit poles the weight sticker is about 6" from the top. My question is when they design and test the weight rating of the pole, is the max weight from the very end or from the weight sticker?

Anyone correct me if im wrong here, but i heard that the newer UCS spirits have moved their labels up on the pole so that it is not 6" down, but as for your real question, i am assuming they would measure it from the max hand hold, otherwise it would be a lot stiffer

Okay. I'm not sure about UCS moving their stickers up though. I got a brand new 13'7" 150 Spirit this year and the sticker is about 6" down.

The sticker may have been moved?

That is the only thing I can think of, because ours has been moved up about an inch from the top of the pole.

the sitcker looked new and the top of the pole was clean, so it was eathier a realy good cut or a new sticker
i have a picture of it, but it was a while ago and its really bad form (its mid-jump) but its pointless to put up, becuase its just what it sounds like a spirit pole with the label 2 inches down

I got a brand new Spirit 15'7" 200 today... the sticker was still 6" down from the top of the pole. We had it specially made for the flex point we needed, so I do not believe they have changed their ways... In the past I have gotten a few 4.90 poles that do not even have pink stickers on them to mark maximum hand hold, so to be honest i don't know how they rate their poles... but my guess is they rate them from where the pink sticker giving you the max hand hold is... thats just a guess though!

Spirit only started putting the pink stickers on the poles after the NFHS mandated the max handhold thing (mid 90s?). They haven't changed how they flex or rate their poles.

poles

Unread postby kev44000 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 8:49 am

I picked up four spirit poles up at reno from steve and there are no weight rating stickers at the top of the pole. The numbers are etched in ,but they were custom made poles. Some coaches in oklahoma peel the sticker and move it up on the pole.
