taping frequency

I was wondering how often you (should) retape your poles. One of my teammates did it before every meet to keep himself focused. I know this stuff doesn't last forever, but what are you ideas on it?

I like to retape every season. Sometimes I'd have to replace it mid-season, but usually not.

once or twice a month, and always at invites and championship meets.
it gets soiled from laying on the ground and falling back to the ground, etc. stupid freshman, can't take care of the poles.

Tape is expensive! Your teammate has picked an expensive habit.
Retape when needed. If the tape is not more than 2 layers thick, and is meeting your needs for helping you grip the pole, there is no reason to retape.

I would say once every three months or so as needed... like when your teammate leaves your poles in the rain

Try thinking about it as if you bought the tape. Then you might use the right criterion for deciding to re-tape. A well taped pole should easily last a high school season.

yeah i know but i try to keep the pole looking clean and it is a blue and white pole so i follow trough with the color scheme, but with our gold and black cata-pole i use black tape and i haven't change it in 2 seasons of vaulting but i hardly ever use it, so i guess you are right

Yeah, I guess my focus is on how to jump well rather than how to look good.

well not to be cocky or anything but i jump good enough for my age to not worry about that (plus i am confident in my ability to not worry about that part)
