Well i wrap my pole with tape by placing the tape at an angle and then slowly letting it roll around the pole. Like the colors on a candy cane.

High school rules dictate that you cannot double-layer tape. you are only allowed to wrap the pole from bottom to top and overlap only once.

for college they don't really care...

Tape on the pole

Unread postby drcurran » Wed Apr 04, 2007 11:19 am

NCAA 6-6-4 . . ."a vaulting pole shall have no assisting device other than two layers of adhesive tape applied with uniform thickness above the bottom of the hand hold."

I'm not saying this is always inspected and or enforced, but at the college level their are rules about tape on the pole.

2007 high school rules do in fact say you can have two layers of tape! You can revers the second layer and have a great grip, and take tension off arms at plant Charlie Polhamus--Two time masters WORLD Champion

what ever you do, tape it up. If you start at the top, and go down, the tape will roll over its self and it becomes almost unusable. just start at the bottom of where you want to tape. and work you way up...

For high school vaulters, tape rolling over violates the 2 layer rule so it isn't allowed.

but how many high schools check for the "more than 2 layer tape rule"

I can't answer that question. All I know is when I run the vault, I look at the poles. At the district and state meets I know they check and they also weigh the vaulters and mark the poles they are allowed to vault on.
