Unread postby VAULTNJAY » Sun Apr 20, 2003 11:05 pm

Can anyone give me some names of Pole Vaulters who are 5'7" and shorter jumping big bars? Past or present.

luke walker is short and a realy good vaulter, he is on the neovault video and he went to college with my coach and my coach is like 5.7 or something and he said luke is shorter than him but he also said luke is wicked strong.

there are pleanty of short vaulters out there

Scott Huffman
Brad Darr
Jeff Buckingham
Pat Manson
Chad Harting

I guess in my view (of course I am only 5'8") a short vaulter is anyone under 6 foot.

Don Baird is 5'7" on a good day and jumped 18'2" in something like 1979 when it was really high. He then held the Australian record for several years until Simon broke it.

Chad Harting is not short. He's at least 5'10"

Hate to sound like a broken record but.....

Scott Huffman 5'9" 19'7"
Joe Dial 5'9" 19'6"
Greg Duplantis 5'5" 19'0" (shortest ever over 19')
Thierry Vigneron 5'9" 19'4" (first ever over 19')

ect.

Barto.

i'd do myself injustice if i didnt chime in here. I was clearing 14 and 15 foot bars in Hs when i was a shade over 5 feet. Even a shade might be to generous. Basically i was short and i still am. But I make it up in other areas. ;) Like my speed (ha gotcha) and my plant. my height pr's are somtethin like this:
4'6''- 9'6''
4'9''- 13'
5'- 14'6''
5'4''- 15'7''
5'6''-16'
5'7''-17'

Sure height is an advantge, but so is speed. Some how it all balances out, so im not complaining.

too short?

Unread postby sunshinePV » Mon Apr 28, 2003 11:35 pm

heyyy....height doesnt matter!! From a chix perspective...svetlana feofanova is only 5'3-5'4 and she's jump some BIGGGGG bars. Im only 5'3 but i've still got a long way to go until i catch up to the big girls. Its all about the speed and the technique. Girl or guy..there is no magical connection b/w being tall and jumping tall..

plant angle does matter - given two vaulters - if speed and technique are equal - the taller vaulter has the advantage - but as Chris said - speed is one of the biggest factors - the v squared term -
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
