Yes, but typically if i'm really trying to learn something from a vault, i watch just that part of the vault, and analyze that part of it. To get a perfect picture of a vault in your head you may watch someones plant, then someone elses swing, etc. This should help you get an ideal image in your head of what the "perfect vault" will look like. (at least that is my belief)

I just watch Bubka's 6.01m winning jump from the Athens World Champs in '97. One of the most perfect vaults I've seen. You can download it from http://www.stabhochsprung.com

the more videos you can watch, the better. Every different jump can teach you something, because everyone has their seperate strengths and weaknesses. If you really want to learn about the vault, you need to watch A LOT of videos. And like they said, www.stabhochsprung.com is the best site to watch videos at.

The best jump on stabhochsprung, in my opinion, is the bubka jumps before sydney. It's the second one on the list for that date, and it shows perfectly how he gets inverted so well. The bungee is at like 20' and he is probably 40 in the tape but its good footage.

You can't go wrong watching ANY jump by Maksim Tarasov. I personally feel he was/is the greatest technician ever.

I will definetely support that Tarasov is a great person to watch from a technical standpoint. His form is really good overall.

Watching video is as it has always been a great idea. Be very carefull not to look at only individual frames of jumps, and try to emulate "positions". The pole vault is not made up of positions, it is a flow. One of the most important things you can learn from watching video is to figure out what works and what dosen't within the flow of a jump. None of the best vaulters do it the same, but they all have a flow that allows them to move big poles and climb out then end. Most of the big jumps you are going to find are smooth, you don't see a position A, B, C...... I see a lot of kids hitting "Big" positions like they have seen the big guys do, but completely missing the boat on the entire pole vault. The pole vault works in a flow, as one continous movement, not individual pieces. Find out where energy comes from and where it goes.
A good idea is to look for "dead" frames in video, or times when a vaulter is simply hanging around waiting for something to happen. In a perfect world there would be 0 frames where the vaulter is passive.
Just some ideas for you all out there, I can elaborate more if you like, but I am tired, and very old, and I gotta' go jump.
