This one isn't funny or anything, but it is my favorite pv quote. "I'm not too focused on who I'm vaulting against. The competition at the meet is more me against the crossbar." -Nick Hysong

At my first practice with the Canadian national pole vault coach, Zdenick Krykorka, the first time I run down the runway, he says to me:

"You know, you're about as slow as my grandmother, and she's been dead for 5 years!"

He's the best pole vault coach that I've had.

First two quotes are from my coach, Dub Jones

"brad, you gotta jump like you like chicks, that’s how I always do it..."

Secondly i was up at Princeton and no heighted, later in the week some men walked into our club and wanted to talk to experienced vaulters, this is Dub introducing me to those men....

"yea this is Brad, he was no heighting up at Princeton this weekend... He's doin' the club proud!"

Thirdly was from a long jumper who competed for the Lebanese '96 Olympic team.
I was having major problems with my vault and in one of our many times speaking, these words have stuck out in my head; I was explaining to him what was going on in my vault

"Brad if you tell your self ‘your not ready to compete’, then you never will be ready to compete" -Gabby-

And the last is from my mother...

"Brad, if your not smiling when you walk off that matt, ill come down there and bloody well kill you...."

my coach said this the day of the state meet this year to just loosen the mood and relax us all

"hey guys if you don't know what to do on the dance floor, just row the boat" and then he did this really dumb dance move and said "so today if you dont know what to do just row the boat" we did it all meet and we took state so it might work.

I am thinking of making a t-shirt with some of these for my vaulters...Anyone object to it getting on a shirt (i doubt any are copyrighted). Just the clean ones...Is this legal tender? Or shananegians?

Thanks and let me know,

Patrick

Sayings. . . .

Not a "T" shirt saying / quote, but it could be. When the students I worked with found out I vaulted in HS and College, they of course, would ask - " were you any good". I always answered "I was OK, and if I had jumped higher I would have been in the Olympics". That quickly translated to "Coach Curran almost made the Olympic Team! I think some never did figure out what I said. Good for a laugh!
