Having trouble with poles??

In 1891 the reigning Olympic and American pole vault champion turned up the championships without his pole. His opponents would not lend him one so he uprooted a flagpole and used that to jump 9’10” – and share the title. :yes:

The first modern Olympic games was in 1896... and the 1891 US Championships was won by solely Theodore Luce with a jump of 10'6.50.
