I saw Jacob, Chistikov, and Bubka in person all at the same age. No, doubt that Jacob was the most talented of the three.

Davis was 6'4" 215. He jumped on 5m 10s. His big pole was a 5m 9.6 or 9.8.

He had the most potential I've ever seen.

He almost became the first 6m American the season before. He was WAAAY over 6.01, looked down at the bar and knocked it off with his nose.

Even if he had decided to keep vaulting, I don't know how long his career would've been. He had back problems that prevented him from planting a pole in practice after his sophmore year. Pfaff told me that he cleared 6.10 in practice that year. He also had a degenerative hip problem. I don't know how much that affected him but his back was a major issue.

Did you notice that Davis had a Colwick-like C and downswing? His lead knee didn't drive high and then drop ... it went almost straight into the dropped-knee swing position.

No doubt this would be hard on his back, as Achtung said. Quite awesome, nonetheless!

He actually does a good job of pulling his lead knee up as he's whipping both legs AFTER takeoff ... but his knee doesn't drive up on takeoff.

This is the first vid I saw of Davis ... very impressive!

Am I missing something, or why has Colwick not been compared to Davis yet?

Definately alot of simularity between him in colwick. However I think the big difference is Davis take off does not scare me. He jumps up pretty well where as colwick almost sinks and dives into the take off. I would say Davis is more of a cross between colwick and hooker.

Jacob Davis is a prime example of why I doubt anyone will ever jump over ~6.20m without the use of HGH or anabolics. The forces involved in jumping that high are just too strenuous on the body. It's not that a human couldn't do it, it's just that we fall apart physically before we get there.

Yeah i dont think Jacob dives at the box the way Colwick does. Also jacob is more of a traditional drop knee, where colwick never brings it around to begin with. Also colwick takes off out, Jacob takes off a bit under. Both are freaks though. Ive heard some crazy stories about Jacob.
