i see that you are a little under in your step and that your turning point when you start to go verticle loses you height, like your legs coming in so close to your body a not really bringing down your sholders in an efficient way. thats all i can say and your still looking good in height wise. keep it up and you will get out of this rut, i hope i do too as well!

Hunter,

You have good technique and great potential. With your technique, watch, visualize and emulate Joe Dial and Tim McMichael and I bet you will look like Bubka. Talk to your father about Joe, he can probably tell you a thing or to. Good luck this season.

for one thing, your right arm looks really akward when ur carrying the pole, like its really far back and it doesnt look very natural, but when u plant, its right above ur head so thats good. Also, at takeoff u arent too far under, but you never really finish the takeoff, and you start swinging right off the ground. everything after that is just cuz of you not penetrating very well cuz of this.

most of what is limiting you is your pole carry it's too low. your carring this big log 16' 180 and you have to counter act most of that wieght because of the carry angle. You have to be an amazing athlete to jump as high as you are with that pole carry. That's why your right arm is so far behind you and very likely the reason you take off under. Because of that carry the take off is not as good as it could be, so you aren't going to time up with the pole as well, you suck in your trail leg to speed up getting your feet to the pole lose pole rotation because of that. You are so athletic that you can still fight your way through that! Work on your pole carry and plant in the off season.

hallvaulter wrote:thanks, i converted the video to a smaller format, ill have it up this afternoon.

I appreciate the comments barto.

Plant mechanics as in be taller faster at the plant im assuming?

Also, one thing my coach and i discussed was how i carried the pole too low during the run up phase, this was a while ago, however im not sure if it is fixed yet, ill have to look again.

Hunter
obviously, im not expert, but thats exactly whats slowing me down a little right now too, so im working on the pole drop. Lowering it too early will make you have to hold it up more during your last couple steps, and with the weight pulling you out in front, it makes you want to over stride and little, and you wont have as much force at your take off. Im probably repeating what you already know, just think about letting it drop around the 4th left so that it falls naturally into the box on your last step. everything else looks amazing, keep up the great work and good luck to you and spencer both next year, should be interesting.
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph

From what I see, during your swing, your legs and feet come up to the pole, but your hips dont really rise with them, your hips stay pretty low. Then when you try to extend up the pole, you cant really do it with your hips so low, so you get away from the pole. Not sure if that's right; just my theory.

I'd say your plant and takeoff look pretty good, but your swing definitely needs some work, and with that will come a better invert I think...
