Good day of jumping, Scott!
The best jumps are the ones where you get the chest driving and the left hand in line above the left shoulder, not in front. This allows you to get ahead of the timing of the pole a little better, with less blocking and a slightly delayed bend/recoil, and also more penetration.
Keep up the good work, that 15' 170 worked great once we got the mud out of it from the river vaulting! :D

I agree with exactly what Sorenson said, and still the problem outlined earlier with your head position is present. Keep your head up and your body will follow, don't look down at the box on plant. This is just one cue that might help your second phase. Overall, you need to swing longer and further, swinging your hips around the pole, not just up the pole.

A good way to simulate this is to get on the rings and work on swinging fast, long, and over-covering the pole. By this, I mean swing your legs past vertical with your hips moving around your hands, THEN pull like you do a hang-clean. I know the pole is recoiling a little earlier than you are ready for sometimes, but if you can hit this position with your legs past vertical in a split second, you will start going straight up the pole instead of flagging when you aren't in the right position quick enough.

Also, just make sure you are swinging around your top hand, and use your bottom hand to get the pole out of the way when you swing. So move it to the side to allow your hips to come through more easily. Good jumping!

Well I have no access to a high bar or rings or anything that would work as such. So all my practice with doing the right swinging motion has to come from vaulting right now. Which sucks because I think that the high bar or rings would speed up the process of figuring out how to swing properly. I have come along ways considering last year I didnt swing at all. I would start to tuck way before the cord. So it is coming along but I know I am capable of swinging all the way to the top of the pole.

Keep at it. You seem like an extremely athletic guy, so there's no doubt you can figure it out from just vaulting. But you are right, it might just take a little longer.

Focus on this with your 3-step stiff vault warm-ups. Really feel your legs coming past the pole before you pull. If you do this 5-10 times before a vault practice, I think it will be just as good as a solid ring workout/drill for helping you fully cover the pole. If you do it right and your legs come back far enough, you will feel like you could stay inverted with no work needed. It'll feel like you are "balanced" in an inverted position. Try and feel this position before going into the vault. I think you are going to figure it out pretty quickly :)

Oh I also got a pair of rings for Christmas from the guys I vault with! Which I really appreciate! thanks again! So if anyone has any good video of swinging drills let me know. I am pretty sure I know what its supposed to look like but I would like to see video for a reference. Thanks

I think stiff pole drills will help you correct whats happening with your head and hands. Try to jump your grip and go from there. Good luck!
