grip 12' 10"
pole 13'6" 135
bungee 12 ft
age 15 sophomore
due to camera angles you cant really see the pole mushing out on me but im landing very deep. needed to move up a pole but was working on other things.

Anyway im under, although i still manage a nice high plant and high bend, but the main problem in my vault i believe is at the end. i need to turn AROUND the pole instead of simply doing a bubka and getting stuck behind it and not getting shot off the top. anything to confirm that or any other critiques on any part of the vault will be greatly appreciated.

also any sprint workouts....
plyo's
or if anyone has info on any coaches in florida please say so... i desperatley want to train year round but theres no coaching in citrus county.

yo, i think i had the same problem, yesterday. check out my "okay practice, 10-12-08" thread and you'll know what i mean. i just kept blowing through, and shooting out. i'm still waiting on the Big Guns to critique the vid so maybe we should read eachother's comments cause i think we had a similar problems, and might get similar comments about fixing them {shrugs}. -Joe

Hmm ... so now 6-Pack is calling me a Big Gun, eh? Ha! :D

LHSV, I did take a look at your vid, and I only saw your lack of turning on the last vault. (If I missed something, please let me know.)

I can't really see what you did differently (or wrong) on that vault, but the fact that you had a nice turn and belly-clearance on all of your previous vaults should be enough to just write off your last vault as an anomaly.

Just don't worry about it. Instead, focus on what you DID RIGHT on your good vaults!

Kirk (one of the Big Guns) :)

I am flattered to be called a 'Big Gun'!

You lack a dynamic swing... You seem like you're not catching that 'jerk' that the pole should give your shoulders, which initiates the swing. (Let's not play with words here, this description is close enough for practical purposes, I know I might be off a little bit... but the topic is not for this forum or thread.)

Watch your video again and tell us what you think about your swing. Did it feel super slow and 'muscled' to you? The angle makes it difficult to see much. Side-on is much better.

deffinetly. since ive developed my swing it has always felt unnaturally slow and well like you said muscled. pretty much just lifting a leg to get inverted as you would on a highbar. any suggestions as to quicken my swing. or initiate a real whipping motion?

Have you ever done half-giants or something similar on a highbar? That is really the best way. Get a side-on shot next time you can too, and I can help you out more.

Just swinging on a highbar, recreating the swing. If you've done real giants, you've definitely done 'half giants'.

Get back on the highbar. Treat it as a major focus for the next week or two... you will see enormous improvement in your swing speed.

Just wanted to throw out there that this could possibly be a result of too much pressure with the bottom arm, which could slow down your swing. Also a bigger pole could solve your concerns of not turning enough, and if going up poles doesn't help, then you may be overgripping.

yes like i said i needed to go up a pole .... my competition pole was a 14ft 140 compared to the 13'6" 135 i was using in the video. As it comes to the issue of "blocking" the swing with pressure from the bottom arm i dont believe this is particularly true for this case. i had recently just gotten my bottom arm high above my head in the video and it helped my vaulting substantially, but i do see where your coming from. ..... lastly on over gripping ive gripped 6-10 inches higher and still efficiently cleared my handgrip.... all good suggestions ... just trying to narrow this down.
