At your takeoff, get your bottom elbow pointed more out instead of down at the box... that will allow for a little bit better chest penetration and drive off the ground, with a bigger swing and getting on bigger poles!!

so... push upwards more with the bottom arm?

keep in mind, thats a pretty short pole too.

Yeah... but also its a little bit of a push upwards, but more just opening the window for your chest to drive through more... elbow out allows your shoulders to relax and chest to drive into the pole more powerfully, giving you a better stretch and possibility for a better swing!!

it doesnt look like you're really loading the pole any, although your technique seems to be pretty nice.

anyone think i put my turn on it too late?

i'm pretty stumped as to why the top of my vault right now looks so... weak?

Too small of pole... you wont get a huge return on a 13' foot pole because it simply doesn't store enough energy to return efficiently. You could jump on a 13' pole 40lbs over your weight and i bet you still wouldn't clear much over 1.5 feet over your top hand hold...

gotcha.

well... i'm gona burn this approach and plant in my brain with this 13'6" pole then and then start bumping up.

15' by the end of the summer. oh yes.

Picture 1, Pole carry before plant. I think you are dropping your hands instead of the pole tip. That causes you to have to bring your hands and the pole itself about 6 to 8 inches farther up then the other vaulter. Hill pole runs and your continued work on the plant will get this more in line.

Picture 2. Square you shoulder off more (better plant will help that). See how you can see your chest more so than his? Moving that plant motion up and forward (the baseball cap bill I talked about in an earlier post) will get you off the ground better and in position for the rest of the jump.

Picture3. Pretty close good job. I do notice a lean to the left a little. But I do like where you top hand is out and up

Picture 4. Yep! Now you're getting it.

Picture 5. Difference here is he is positioning himself to drop the shoulder for his rotation around them.

Picture 6. The reason you a little late on this one is due to some of the earlier things. Yet it's still pretty close

Picture 7. Nice

Picture 8.Nice inversion (waaaaaaay better than the one on the Bubka comparison thread)

Picture 9. He's coming off the top of the pole and you're still coming off the side.

In conclusion, if we get the plant a little taller and with your getting a better free take off, that will encourage the swing to take place earlier IF you can develop the rotation around dropped shoulders. Things just have to happen a tad sooner to get you in that position to pop off the top. But I'll say this, from the first videos that I saw you have really improved a lot in just a very short time. Good Job Sam........Mike

Thanks mike... good assessment... i'm going to keep that all in mind.

This improvement in a short time... i'll attribute that to working very hard at all this. Damn, i wish i had a coach at my practices... working with Paul was GREAT.
