I disagree - upward-forward, in that order.

Well - that killed off that discussion. Pity because it is a crucial issue. :D

Hopefully your hands are allready upward as high as possible when the tip hit's the back of the box. So how could you push them up any higher?
Unless your just continuing to push after you've left the ground

What would you do if you jumped on a bamboo or steel pole? Think about and describe it. Why would you do anything different on fiberglass?

I think after I jumped off the ground I would want to continuosly try to drive the tip of the pole down thru the box during the entire jump!

Agapit is trying to pull something out of me that I have always considered to me as one of the best kept secret's in vaulting. That was shared with me by a close friend and former world class vaulter after alot of prying!
The funny thing is when he first shared it I told him he was crazy! which is probably the reaction of most good vaulter's and coaches and one of the reason's it is not regularly accepted or discussed.

You have plenty of open minds here that want to hear this and hopefully attempt to implement it.

This isn't like at school where the teacher only nudges us in the right direction is it?

You should know by now -"There is no spoon". Neither are there any 'secrets' in the pole vault - just things we do not understand as well as we would like to! What does Bubka say he tried to do immediately after take off?

What are the implications of trying to drive the tip of the pole down through the box throughout the vault?
