Feeling that steps are off when they really aren't?

I had one of those days today when I checked and rechecked my steps many times but every time I ran up to the pit, it just felt wrong. Granted I haven't been able to practice for about 2 weeks because our track was being resurfaced but I was just wondering what other people do if/when they have the same problem.

It's because you're a lefty. Just kidding.
Some days are just like this. I tell my athletes to move into the shortest lefts they have (three left for us) and work from there until they feel comfortable. Then, move back a step. Work that until they are comfortable. Repeat again and again until full run.
I know this works because I have had vaulters get to a meet and had their full runs feel off. I make them go to three lefts, then four, then five to get back on track. This always works for us.
Good luck.

this is common when you have had time off, in most "warm-up" jumps and when there is a slow runway.
normally you don't have the same speed so the run an/or your check marks are two long/too far out.. even though you run the same step lengths the speed is slower to the steps will not feel the same even when they are on...

A newly resurfaced track........................that could be a cotributing factor as well.

using the six step (3 left) as a check point may give you some good feedback and a reference for training...

to piggyback on DJ's comment. When you use the six step formula you will see true increases in speed and power based on the numbers and your improvement will be easy to track (it works for me and my ahletes consistently)
