Easy Pull-Push phase question

All i need to know is what direction is the pull occuring that Agapit and Petrov refer to in the 6.40. Is it towards the body of the vaulter (like pulling a door closed), or is it a pull downward (like pulling yourself up a climbing rope).
And if anyone feels so inclined, for a high school vaulter with limited coaching, would forgoing this phase and focusing on a tall right arm and an extended left arm be better?

I don't believe Petrov has ever talked about the bottom arm pull. The 6.40 model is Botcharnikov's alone, although very similar to Petrov all most all the same elements. The bottom arm pull being the biggest difference...in my opinion.

Yes

No

If I were you I would focus on getting the bottom arm completely extended before take-off. This will lead you to a true immediate pull

.

"I would focus on getting the bottom arm completely extended before take-off." But always ensuring that the left elbow is below and outside the left hand -so 'you can see through the gap'.

Until you can jump17' don't worry about "pulling" at all. Focus on extending through the shoulders during the entire jump.

From what I see in the 6.40 jump of Bubka, there is some sort of pull with the left arm/lat.
From what I don't read, he was not conscious of pulling or at least did not think it as something to focus on.
From what I do read, he was all about PUSHING the pole to the plane of the bar. (This I believe is what Barto is talking about.)
If it can work for him...
