Bolt’s a ‘Hero’ – Bubka
Sunday, 14 September 2008
Sergey Bubka, legendary Ukrainian pole-vaulter, has hailed the performance of triple world record holder, Jamaica's Usain Bolt at the Beijing Olympics last month.

Bubka is calling Bolt a "hero".

Bubka, now Chairman of the Athletics Commission of the International Olympic Committee says Bolt helped to resuscitate the ailing fortunes of track and field with his performances in Beijing, China.

"He was unbelievable ... his world records were really unique and unbelievable achievements.

He's so strong and young," he said.

Bubka who still holds the world record for men's pole-vault at 6.14 meters says Bolt has a large part to play in the future of the sport.

"We need to have athletes with personalities because they represent the sports ... they're role models for young generations and can bring attention to athletics," said Bubka.
