Samuels captures pole vault at Italian meet
Wednesday, July 13, 2011
FORMER Jamaica College athlete and national Junior record-holder in the pole vault, K'Don Samuels, improved his personal best to 5.25m while winning the event at a meet in Italy last weekend.
The 21-year-old Samuels, who last competed in Jamaica at the Gibson Relays in March, was an easy winner as the second-placed athlete, Vincenzo Esposito, could only manage 3.70m.
Samuels, who was the first Jamaican to win the event at the Penn Relays two years ago while setting the NJR of 4.80m, told the Observer he was competin "seriously for the first time this season".
He said visa problems will see him miss the Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico later this week.

His second time over 5.25m. First time was at the Reno Summit earlier this year.
