How long is her pole? On the video, it sure looks like it is not much shorter than the bar height. Also, her hand hold is right at the very end of the pole. It even appears as if the pole is taped at the very top to allow for a hand hold. If so, no high school official in my state would ever allow the pole to be used until the tape is removed.

She certainly cleared the bar easily.

polecat, you can't put tape on your poles? What state are you in?

Anyway- wow... the russians are coming. Looks like 16 and/or 5m will be broken before the olympics- nice!

exactly, high school rules say that cant be, but isbanyeva is not in high school so the rules to do not apply to the world championships competition, the iaaf has their own rules on taping poles and such

Tape on pole

Unread postby Decamouse » Tue Mar 16, 2004 7:22 am

IAAF removed rule about amount of tape on a pole this year - HS still has two layer rule plus can not tape/hold above the manufacture max hold line as prescribe by the HS Federation - no such rule exists outside of HS - so - jumping on 14'7" poles and capping them is legal for anything but HS - well almost anywhere - USATF Junior Olympics has the weight rule clause in it also.
