Feofanova Sets New Indoor Pole Vault Mark

Feofanova broke the mark of 15-10 1/4 set last Sunday by Russian Yelena Isinbayeva. Feofanova easily cleared the bar in her first attempt at the height.

Isinbayeva managed to jump just 14-9 1/4 after failing in three attempts at 15-1 1/4.

"I had a long time to bring such a result in Athens, something was making it difficult for me to gather my strength but today I am very pleased because at last I managed to do this jump," Feofanova said through an interpreter.

Feofanova set a new women's indoor pole vault record

Russia's Svetlana Feofanova set a new women's indoor pole vault record with a leap of 4.85 metres.

Feofanova broke the record by two centimetres on her first attempt at the height after clearing 4.7m

She beat team-mate and previous world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva, who failed three attempts at 4.6m.

"Something was making it difficult for me to gather my strength but today I'm pleased because at last I managed to do this jump," Feovanona said.

All i have to say is congrats to her as that is an awesome jump and I'm extremely excited that this year, an olympic year, will probably be the first time a women (there are a couple who are within range), will jump over 16'

had the thought crossed anyone elses mind that us here in the U.S.A might be the only people that are really getting worked up about a woman to clear 16 feet. I mean, track and field is metric around the world. And unless you come to the u.s. and for some weird reason they use feet instead of meters then I would imagine that the real goal for women around the world ( especially the russians) would be 5 meters... not 16 feet. Anyone else get what Im saying. I remember reading a quoat somwhere of Bubka saying that women pole vaulting will not really hit a level as competative as the guys until a woman goes over 5 meters. Just like when a guy finally jumped over 6 meters. I dont know, I guess it takes some excitement out of the sport when the world record gets broken like 5-6 times a year..... I say 5 meters or bust... anyone get what Im saying?

I think you may have a very valid point

I agree, after thinking about it, it does make a lot of sense, but for our American standards, regardless of how they view it, I believe it will be a big mark from an american standpoint, though 5m does make a lot more sense on an international level. But anyway, with how well they're jumping this early, who's to say that 5m isnt right around the corner?

they might think about it a little bit though. I mean we generally are happy about foot and meter marks. Although this may be cuz we are the only people that use both, but it may have crept into some peoples heads. Who knows really, but 5.0m will be here soon enough either way
