Men's 100m Final

Unread postby jcoover » Sat Aug 16, 2008 11:36 am

For those of you who didn't see... Usain Bolt won the 100m final today (last night for us) in 9.69s in a 0.0 wind. Search Youtube for "Usain Bolt 9.69" and watch him hold his arms out at 70m and start banging his chest at 80m only to finish .03s faster than his already unbelievable world record... oh and his reaction time was 0.165s, a full 0.03s slower than most of his competition.

Incredible! He literally looked like he was in workouts in prelims. BTW apparently NBC has blocked viewing of it on YouTube....i suppose they own copyright privileges. They'd probably allow viewing of PV....since apparently they don't care about it. LOL

He ran 46 for 400 and 20.5 for 200 at age 15. Sometimes a genetic freak is paired with their ideal sport and the results show that.

I think that is a valid point....If football, baseball, and basketball didn't usually draw the best athletes I think we might see more of what Bolt is doing in track.
Retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.

On the T&FN board, someone broke down his first WR and his turnover isn't that much faster but he takes less steps and has a much longer stride. Plus, he's one of the few tall guys that has even attempted to do the 100m. Historically, if you were up at 6'5" you were a long sprinter. Period. We could have been keeping the actual natural talents out of the event by height discrimination. Heck, the WR could have been soft as a result.

Hey guys, no spoilers in the headers! The footage still hasn't aired on the west coast (and maybe it won't until tomorrow night?)

Just saw the final on TV here in Michigan... sick, absolutely sick! That boy can fly, and I can't wait to see him actually finish a race...

I hated to see Tyson Gay not make the final! I was extremely impressed with his exit interview just after failing to qualify. What a class act! No excuses, no finger pointing!
