Pole vaulter Roslinda wins gold in Taiwan tournament

By AFTAR SINGH

KUALA LUMPUR: Beijing Olympic-bound Roslinda Samsu clinched the gold medal in the Taiwan International Pole Vault Championships on Friday.

The Kedahan leapt 4.23m to finish ahead of her Australian and Japanese rivals, who both cleared 4.13m.

Roslinda: Bound for Beijing Olympics
However, Roslinda’s effort was way off her national record of 4.40m, which she set in a meet in Barcelona in 2006.

This was her second tournament of the year, having jumped 4.10m en route to a bronze in the Asian Indoor meet in Doha in February.

Roslinda was to have competed in the World Indoor Championships in Valencia on March 8 but she could not do so because her poles were delivered to her a day later.

Roslinda is the only track and field athlete to have qualified for the August Olympic Games.

She cleared 4.30m in the Kazakhstan Open last July to equal the Category B qualifying mark for the Olympics.

That is correct. crazy good jump too. ill post video eventually. I am actually in the Taipei International airport at the moment.

steve and i both finished warm ups around 1:30. sat for 2 hours during opening ceremony, and then 3 more hours for rewarm ups and lower bars. steve made his 5.71 around 7:15 or so and then just stopped jumping. 4.95 grip, 13.6 5m pole, only 7 lefts.

other results

myself and both Kupstov brothers 5.43

everyone was using a few poles that the meet director had. my poles never made it, russians poles never made it
