CLERMONT-AUVERGNE, France: Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva easily won at a French indoor meet and missed a chance at her indoor world record on Tuesday.
Isinbayeva cleared only 4.61 meters, the same height she reached last week to finish second in the Pedro's Cup in Poland.
She made 4.61 on her second attempt at Clermont-Auvergne and vainly tried for 4.96 to add one centimeter to her indoor world record.
Fabiana Murer of Brazil also cleared 4.61 but placed second because she took three attempts.
Murer than failed at 4.71, while Anastasiya Shvedova of Russia cleared 4.56 to finish third.
Last Wednesday in Poland, Isinbayeva was beaten by 10 centimeters by former record-holder Svetlana Feofanova.
Ten days ago Isinbayeva set her 21st world record and 10th indoors when she cleared 4.95 at the Pole Vault Stars in Donetsk, Ukraine.
She set her 5.01 world outdoor record at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki, Finland, and missed 14 attempts at beating it last year.
Isinbayeva is firm favorite to win at the March 7-9 world indoor championships in Valencia, Spain.

I to disagree with Bubka? But I still think an intermediate height between 4.61 and 4.96 might be a good idea.
