Mesnil only third; Smail’s indoor debut highlights in Mondeville
Sunday 27 January 2008

Mondeville, France - Nouredine Smaïl provided the highlight of the Meeting Gaz de France on Saturday evening (26) with a 7:55.95 win at 3000m in the Mondeville indoor hall. In the men's Pole Vault, Osaka medallist Romain Mesnil was only third.

The men’s Pole Vault provided a close contest as Frenchmen Jerome Clavier (1st), Renaud Lavillenie (2nd) and World Championships silver medallist Romain Mesnil (3rd) all cleared 5.60m. Lavillenie is the big surprise of the season as the 21-years-old has improved from a 5.45 PB in August 2007, and since jumped 5.58 for his two other competitions so far this winter, in Aulnay-sous-Bois and Oyonnax. Damiel Dossevi was 4th with 5.50m.
