In the only men’s field event to be concluded on the first day, Liu Feiliang produced 5.30m in the Pole Vault to secure gold for China equalling the Games' record. Feiliang, the World Junior bronze medallist in 2004, who has 5.60m personal best indoors, significantly is the national outdoor record holder thanks to his 5.71m in Guangzhou on 20 July this summer.

Liu Feiliang wins men's pole vault at Asian Indoor Games

Liu Feiliang claimed the title of men's pole vault of the 2007 Asian Indoor Games on Tuesday, bringing the total number of gold medals for China to 27 at the tournament.

Liu did not meet any challenge as he began his finals at 5.30m where no other players took part.

Al Sabahhah Ali from Kuwait was ranked second with 5.10m. Shoghian Pendar from Iran finished the event with 4.90m to place third.

Akhmedov Alexandr of Kazakhstan finished fourth with 4.75m and other five players all failed three times at the first height.
