Doping Rule Violation
Friday 14 September 2007
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has been informed by the Hellenic Amateur Athletics Association (SEGAS) that the male athlete, Konstantinos FILIPPIDIS has been found guilty of the following doping violation under IAAF Rules:

Presence of the prohibited substance Etilephrine (S6. Stimulants) in his doping control sample (IAAF Rule 32.2a)

This doping violation relates to an in-competition doping control conducted on 16.06.07 in Greece at the Hellenic Championships in Athletics.

In conformity with the IAAF Rules, the SEGAS has imposed the following sanction for a first violation:

• 2 years ineligibility (11.07.07 to 10.07.09)
• Disqualification of all results from 16.06.07

This information has been added to the 2007 List of Anti-Doping Rule Violations which can be found on the IAAF website in the anti-doping statistics section.

Note: Under the IAAF Rules, athletes sanctioned for a doping violation have the right to appeal this decision to the relevant appeals body.

“The IAAF is committed to protecting the sport of athletics from the threat of doping. Each year the IAAF spends more than 2.5 million dollars on this ongoing battle and coordinates approximately 3,000 doping controls. All IAAF out-of-competition tests are conducted on a strictly no-advance-notice basis.

Boy he sure has been competing a lot this year for someone who is technically banned until July 10.

4 meets with a best of 5.65 at the Europeam Team Championships. How on earth was he eligible? Time for me to do some more research!

His doping offence, to me, was actually a mistake...he was ill and he had taken a drug which had a non-legal substance in high levels, which I have to mention that is not helpful for his event.... However, he was charged with 2 years....

Actually I think he asked to reduce his penalty for a month in order not to lose the events of June, and as he was tested many times with no problem, the association decided to reduce his penalty for some months. He first competed at the very end of April in clubs championships 5,40m., 5,50m. at military games out of competition..won the ticket for Leiria in mid-May in Edessa in 5,25m. and his next was Leiria, where he was perfect!!! He reminded of the great junior-Filippidis, who in 2005 was trying to set a junior world record! Smile

The drug is a stimulant that increases cardiac output.
His name is on a list dated May 27th from the IAAF. Fishy!!
