Federer and Isinbayeva AIPS Athletes of the Year 2006

For the second year in a row, Roger Federer and Yelena Isinbayeva have been voted the world’s best athletes by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), the peak professional body representing the sporting media worldwide.
Members of AIPS voted overwhelmingly for the 2006 Athletes of the Year, Switzerland’s tennis ace, Federer who beat Fabio Cannavaro and Fernando Alonso for the title and Russian pole vaulter, Isinbayeva who topped Justine Henin-Hardenne and Janica Kostelic.
Best Team of the Year award for 2006 overwhelmingly went to Italy’s football world cup winning team, the Azzurri followed by the Brazilian national volleyball team and FC Barcelona.
The vote for the Best Press Facilities of 2006 went to World Cup Football, Germany, followed by the Winter Olympic Games and Wimbledon Championships, tennis.
