I'm not trying to slice hairs here. if lighter fluid keeps your hands from slipping doesn't it actually increase the friction not reduce it. Because when you come down to it friction is what keeps your hands in one spot on the pole, a reduction of friction makes your hands slip.

i guess your right. It still works somehow to not let your hands from slipping its more complicated then i thought

Sound like it drys your hands when it evaporates. So it probably works similar to chalk. The sweat/skin oils decreases the friction making it harder to hang on to a pole.

2 benefits to lighter fluid:

1) Evaporates sweat and dries the hands like chalk

2) Pull the sticky resin out of the tape, thus increasing friction and reducing slippage
