jeeze....you could run a 14 second 100 and still be able to jump 13 feet. Speed really starts becoming more of a factor at 15 +.

i agree, its all about body awareness and power at the plant. The better you "move the pole" the higher you jump. The breakdown goes somehting like this. 10.0m/s=19'6 and higher 9.0m/s= 18+ 8.0m/s = 17+ thats the general rule for higher vaults. Remember that speed isnt everything. Its how u use it.

Free your mind,
Chip

yea cause i run faster than 9 m/s, but i havent mastered my technique enough to tackle 18 ft. so it does take some work.

Here you go, Derek Miles can jump 13'3" from 2 Steps!! not 2 Lefts, im talking about 1 Left...actual 2 steps, imagine if he was the fastest man alive he couldn't generate that much speed from 2 steps, and three days ago he was running through a 15m speed trap and ran a 1.54(9.7m/s), not even 10m/s...without a pole!! He is ready to jump 19-4 or heigher going into the World Indoor Championships.

There is no real scale that tells you how high you can jump based on how fast you run, but you can check this out, Doug Fraley was the slowest ever 19 footer...and Bubka was the slowest ever 20 footer! LOL

Long Jump power is pretty important, Bubka had 26' LJ blow, Derek Miles has jumped 24'+...Doug Fraley however was not that sort of athlete, 22'6" tops!! so potential to jump high has more factors than just physical attributes.
