Vaulting off of box

I had a guy that has a very flat take off vault from three lefts this week and I put a 6 inch wooden box that the long jumpers jump off of at his take off. This way it would be impossible to run straight into the plant and he would be forced to jump.

I think this was very beneficial because he got to where he could grip a little over 13 from 3 lefts on a 14' 175 when he is like 6' 175 (he was not running a full out sprint). Then when we took away the box he moved back to 4 with the same pole and grip and nearly landed off the back of the pit. So he went up to the 185 and was still landing near the back because he was jumping so much better.

Sounds Good!

As long as it isn't over-used or too tall I think it can be a good tool. Just make sure you avoid getting too comfortable with it, and avoiding knee injury by keeping the runs short and the box short.
