ATASCADERO, CA
2006 Sky Jumpers Vaulting Camps Application

SJVSC Pole Vaulting

Directed by Olympic bronze medallist and former world record holder Jan Johnson. His SJVSC camp system is legendary for offering the finest, most up to date teaching system possible in a high energy, fun atmosphere.

Costs and Options
Commuters - varies, according to the length of the camp. See application portion for your specific camp. Cost includes instruction, insurance, t-shirt, booklet, etc. Does not include room, breakfast or evening supervision.

Residents - varies, according to the length of the camp. See application portion for costs specific to each session. Includes all of the above, plus room and meals, hotel to facilities transportation, and evening supervision. Please note that resident campers will be housed 4 to a room.

Coaches Education – Coaches who attend will receive a certificate of attendance.

In addition, all SJVSC camps are formatted so as to prepare novice coaches and vaulter’s for the testing portion of the pole vaulting certification. Coaches may attend as resident campers (4 to room in Best Western), or commuter campers (have own housing). We strongly suggest that any and all HS, college, or club programs should provide a coach who can pass this test of minimum competency at the following address http://www.pvscb.com/

Refunds subject to $50 processing fee. No refunds if dismissed for disciplinary or injury reasons.

Deadline - Deposit due two weeks prior to session. All camps, first-come, first-served basis only. Register early: winter and summer camps tend to fill up early. Do not send applications late without checking for availability first.
Note, we do not accept faxed application or applications without deposits.
Program
Includes three sessions daily, small groups, several pits, large staff on premises during the entire camp. Variety of activities including vaulting, gymnastics, rope vaulting, ring vaulting, skill progressions, imitative exercises, vaulting drills, videotaping, movies, and other optional recreational activities such as surfing and skating ½ pipe and high bar..

All sessions end between 12 noon and 2 pm on the last day of camp. Single day camps end at 4pm. Please arrange your transportation accordingly.
Location
Atascadero is located in San Luis Obispo County, on the beautiful central coast of California. It is located 240 miles south of San Francisco, 200 miles north of Los Angles on U.S. Hwy 101. It is easily accessible by Amtrak, bus, plane, or car. Please notify us if you need ground transportation upon arrival or departure. If you need carpool information from your area, we can also provide assistance. Call or email Sky Jumpers at (805) 466-8273 for information, or jan@skyjumpers.com

If you are flying in for the camp, and desire airport pick up on the check-in day, we recommend that you fly into San Luis Obispo, and do not bring poles.

Coaches Discount
In addition to offering the finest instruction to athletes, SJVSC has educated thousands of coaches over the past 20 years. Our program is designed to prepare the novice coach, parent, or athlete to pass the National Pole Vault Safety Certification exam at www.pvscb.com. HS and college coaches with active coaching assignments who wish to prepare for certification will receive a $100 discount against the camp fee. They should fill out and return the attached application with a $100 deposit check. They may choose either the commuter or resident camp status, the $100 discount applies to either.

Registration
A check for $100 down payment should accompany your registration form. The balance is due upon check-in. Participation in the camp is available on a first come, first serve basis. Upon receipt of your application and deposit, you will be mailed a confirmation packet with updated instructions and information regarding the camp. This information will include: a map, a daily camp schedule, www.pvscb.com information, camp rules and regulations and other important information.

Please do not email or fax us your applications. All application must be accompanied by a deposit check.

What To Bring
Each vaulter should bring his\her own poles, athletic tape and extra spending money. Arrangements can be made to borrow SJVSC poles, but we strongly recommend you bring your own, so we can see you on your equipment. Please note we do not charge a fee for borrowed poles. We have an extensive collection of poles: all brands, lengths and weights. If you are traveling via commercial air carrier we recommend that you do not attempt to bring your own poles. If you are driving or taking the Amtrak we do recommend that you bring your poles.
Skyjumpers also features surfing and ½ pipe skating as extra-curricular activities. If you have skating and surfing equipment including wetsuits, boards, pads and helmets we strongly recommend that you bring them.
Skyjumpers Philosophy
We take great pride in offering a wide variety of challenging vault related activities in a park-like setting. We stress step-by-step skill development, with a safety first motto. Come prepared to make huge gains in your vaulting, make new friends, and try new stuff. Camaraderie, self respect and good clean fun are all important aspects of our system. Drugs, tobacco, and alcohol are not tolerated.
