Well...it's about a year later, and here is the result. She qualified for State this time, where she took 4th and earned a trip to the medal stand. To be honest, she didn't jump all that well, but neither did anyone else. We spent the entire season working on our communication with each other, and made her more responsible for co-owning the decisions we made together. And Morry,, I had one phrase you wrote stuck in my head all year..."When it's time to go up, it's time to go up!" We never forgot that, probably never will, so at State, when she was blowing through in warm ups on her BIG pole, she went up! She was up two poles before the competition even began!! For most bars, she was on a pole she had only used in practice a few times, and had trouble getting into the pit when she did...but not this time....standards were at 23-24. By the end, she was on a pole she had never used before. We trusted each other (I know that sounds sappy, but it's true...) and had the guts to go up when it was time. This was a kid that had never held a pole in her life before Spring of her 10th grade year. Now she has been invited to be on the U. of Minnesota T & F team as a pole vaulter. In no small way, the thoughts and expertise you folks shared on this forum a year ago helped bring all this about. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
